So it's that time again.
Not that time, but that time.
Oh so grand. Thanks, thanks, and more thanks.
I adore Thanksgiving. ADORE.
I have the best childhood Thanksgiving memories. I had a fabulous, rich great-aunt and uncle that others write books about. She was a tiny little soft spoken woman with a house full of fancy breakable collections. As a child, "breakable" was the only word I knew or appreciated. And I'm pretty sure that was all that mattered to my parents. God forbid your kid be the one to break something!
She never had children but always had toys for us to play with. And being that this is Alabama we always played out in her huge, beautiful, award winning (literally) yard. She had a big basement where she would set up folding tables with white table cloths on them where we would eventually convene for more food than you can imagine.
And maybe with more people than a lot of you can imagine. I'm talking aunts, uncles, great aunts, second cousins, third dog secondly removed , etc., etc.
Some people don't like that kind of stuff, but I lived for that day.
I don't know if it had anything to do with me being an only child for almost 11 years or not, but either way I loved it.
And now we meet at another aunt and uncle's home. A wonderful little farm house a little south of here in a town most people would, to their loss, pass right by. Acres full of wonderful play space await a new generation of cousins, aunts, nephews, and yes, second dogs thirdly replaced to make more memories.
The tie that binds it all together is the fact that we still go to Granny and Granddaddy's before and after. Family still stays there and Granny still cooks for an army. There will always be leftovers and fixin's for the best sandwiches you could ever imagine. There will always be aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins at Granny and Granddaddy's. Always love and good times to be had at Granny and Granddaddy's!

We really are blessed to be part of this family, aren't we? With our warts and all, I think we are pretty beautiful!
Thanks for calling to help me. That really meant a lot to me Jennifer.
