Camping Fun!

There is just nothing like a good camping trip! I have SO many wonderful camping memories. My grandparents always treated me like one of their own and took me camping so many times, I guess it's just in my blood.

So one thing I know about camping is that the first thing kids do is sniff out water like a blood hound. There is an ability God places in us that matures with use that allows a child to find the quickest route to the best shallow play area.

Proof of that is here. This picture was taken within the first five minutes of arrival.

Here is our activities coordinator.

And said activities.

The kids loved this rope! The big kids performed lots of painful feats on it and the little kids swung back and forth, back and forth until it stopped. Then they would drop into the ankle deep water! It was hilarious!

We went to the Helen Keller Museum. It was so interesting. I don't think I ever really grasped what an extraordinary woman she and her teacher were. I think I will read some of her writing.

Her home is called "Ivy Green" because of the abundance of ivy (duh). It was beautiful and so interesting. The kids were mostly concerned with the sugar chest. The fact that sugar shipments came only twice a year was most disturbing.

Carrie and I, being addicted to the good buy could not pass up these gigantic $1 ice cream cones!! Can you believe it!? One dollar! And we are pretty sure it was Blue Bell. The strawberries in this cone were massive. One dollar! Oh my goodness ya'll, I'm still not over it!!

This was a nice little play ground area in Tuscumbia that we "found", i.e. got lost and ran into, after the Helen Keller Museum. Ethan and Emily were so nice to the little ones. They played with them and helped them so much. They are good kids.

This is a beautiful waterfall there. We were a little disappointed to find out that it was man made, but oh well. It was still pretty and tons of heart stopping fun. Heart stopping for the moms, fun for the kids. They tried really hard to hurt themselves in various ways, but thankfully no one succeeded - unless you count the fact that my child finally had to get a spanking.

About the only time we could get a picture of them together. Every time they would get together we would run at them with cameras pointed and they would immediately dispurse. What's with that?

After we let our kids run all over the wet, slippery rocks and were leaving we found this sign:
And the Watchful Mom Award goes to....

We had a great time with our "NICU friends". Don't you just love those friendships that you have that the husbands and wives are good friends? Everyone is comfortable with one another and there is this amazing kindred spirit between you all. It is still amazing to me the way that God brought us together! It's only been five short years, but it seems like we've always been together.
Also, my wild travelling grandparents are safely home from their trip! Hooray!

Looks like you had a great time. It's weird because I've heard several people mention the Helen Keller museum lately. I guess I need to check it out. And I'm sure sweet, precious Favorite Girl didn't need a spanking!!!
